Bluewater Grill Forms Seafood Sustainability Partnership with Aquarium of the Pacific

Now through September 1, order from Bluewater Grill’s sustainable seafood menu and receive a free ticket to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach!

Newport Beach, Calif. – June 1, 2011

Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurants has entered into a sustainability and promotional partnership with the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach as part of its goal of total menu sustainability compliance by the end of the 2011. To date, more than 90% of the five-restaurant chain’s seafood offerings are sustainably caught or farmed in a method approved by the Aquarium of the Pacific – among the highest of any seafood restaurant in Southern California.

Under the partnership launching June 1, 2011, seafood fans who order a sustainably caught seafood or shellfish item at Bluewater Grills in Newport Beach, Tustin and Redondo Beach receive a free Aquarium of the Pacific adult admission ticket, valued at $24.95. Bluewater Grill will also donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of that item to the Aquarium’s nonprofit Seafood for the Future sustainability program.

Bluewater Grill’s sustainable seafood selections include most of the items on the lunch and dinner menus. Our goal is to have 100% of our menu certified by the Aquarium of the Pacific Seafood for the Future Program; be designated “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program; or adhere to strict Marine Stewardship Council best-practice standards for sustainable harvesting and farming.

According to Melissa Carasquillo, the Aquarium of the Pacific’s chief seafood officer, Bluewater Grill is one of the few Southern California seafood restaurants to apply this full-disclosure menu philosophy. “We applaud Bluewater Grill’s willingness to publish a Fish Origins Chart showing the specific farmed or wild source of every item on the menu. Few seafood restaurants are willing to show this level of transparency.”
