Oysters in October

EVENT: OCT 13 | Shellfish lovers can enjoy oysters roasted three ways during Oct. 13 tasting and month-long menu feature. Bluewater Grill in Temecula Wine County gets in on the annual fall celebration for the first time.

October means oysters at Bluewater Grill restaurants in California and Arizona – specifically, sustainably harvested oysters roasted three ways and paired with hand-selected Firestone beers and wine for the perfect fall indulgence.

And for first time, the annual October celebration spreads to a most-ever seven Bluewater restaurants with the addition of Bluewater Grill Temecula, which opened in Temecula Wine Country and hosts its first Oyster-dedicated tasting this year. Other participating restaurants include Bluewater Grills in Newport Beach, Tustin, Redondo Beach and Phoenix, and Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill and Bluewater Avalon on Coronado and Catalina islands, respectively.

The Oct. 13 “Roasted Oyster Roundup” tasting pairs a dozen fire-roasted Mendocino oysters served in three distinct styles – Pacific Rim-style, with Thai green curry, coconut milk and lemongrass; Provencale-style, with bread crumb, Parmesan cheese, butter, garlic and fresh herbs; and Original Mendocino-style, with spicy-sweet barbecue sauce – with a High Spot 14 Mile Pale Ale on draft or glass of Kungfu Girl Riesling. The price is $24.95 per person for the main 6:30 p.m. seating.

Offered on the second Tuesday of every month, Bluewater Grill’s monthly tasting events allow seafood aficionados to combine the latest seasonal fresh fish varieties with hand-selected wine, beer or sake and commentary by the restaurant’s resident seafood experts. The result has become a popular monthly diversion for Bluewater Grill’s large fan base.

Throughout October, resident chefs and seafood experts at each of the seven restaurants will be available to discuss the latest oyster preparation techniques, recipes and regional trends. Advance reservations are encouraged as the monthly tasting events tend to sell out.

Seafood fans unable to attend the Oct. 13 events can order a Fiery Mendocino Oyster plate off the menu throughout the month, and pair it with beer and wines on the bar menu.
