Bluewater Says “Olé” for Taste of Spain Celebrations in September

Seafood paella, tapas and wines of Spain are the focus of Sept. 10 feasts at seven restaurants throughout Southern and Central California, and Phoenix

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.  (July 16, 2019) – Once again, Bluewater’s Second Tuesday Tastings take on a southern European flair in September as Bluewater Grill and Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill celebrate the flavors, fun and culinary passion of Spain for a month-long menu promotion at seven of ten Bluewater restaurants.

A Taste of Spain pairs a special Bluewater Grill seafood restaurant version of Paella, made with an exclusive blend of rice, saffron, seafood and shellfish, with a seafood tapas starter and wines from the country’s famous grape-growing regions. One of the most popular monthly tasting events of the year, the Sept. 10 tastings are expected to sell-out in advance. 

Offered on the second Tuesday of every month, Bluewater’s tasting series allows seafood and wine aficionados to marry their two loves in a spirited setting featuring the latest seasonal seafood and shellfish varieties paired with hand-selected wines (or specialty draft beers or cocktails) and roving commentary by each restaurant’s resident seafood experts. As a companion to the events, a special, limited-time menu offering allows customers to sample the tasting event throughout the month. The result has become a popular monthly diversion for Bluewater’s large fan base.

Paella originated in the fields of Valencia in eastern Spain but is now a favorite of every region of the country. While Spanish varieties typically combine saffron with pork, eel, squid, beans, peas, artichokes and peppers, the version served by Bluewater restaurants is made with shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, chicken and Spanish chorizo sausage.

The cost of each Sept. 10 pairing event is $40 per person, a $13 savings off the regular $53 menu price, and includes a seafood tapas starter, Bluewater’s original paella and an assortment of hand-selected wines from Spain, including a White "Rueda" and a Tempranillo. Reservations are encouraged for sittings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bluewater chefs and servers at each restaurant will be available to discuss the differences between the shellfish varieties, recipes and techniques.

In addition to the special Sept. 10 tasting events, customers can order Spanish paella from the lunch and dinner menus throughout the remainder of the month. During this time, the featured Spanish wines will be available by the glass at the menu price.
